Social marketing has proven to be more than a passing fad.
An overwhelming 83 percent of the marketers surveyed in the 2012 Social Media Marketing Industry Report by Social Media Examiner indicated that social media is important for their businesses.
Companies that still don’t have a social media presence are missing out on potential leads and sales because a significant number of consumers, particularly among the younger population, have embraced social media and use it to spread the word about products and services they love. Forty-three percent of all online consumers are social media fans or followers, according to a recent study by Exact Target.
Build a Loyal Community
We’re in the era of transparency and authenticity, so interacting on a more personal level with customers has become more important than ever before. Businesses can’t rely solely on traditional, one-way marketing channels to promote their brands. Unlike traditional media, social media makes it possible for you to engage directly with the public, have conversations with them, and get feedback that helps you improve your business.
When you build an active community through social media participation, it enhances your business’s image, giving your brand a face and a voice and making you seem more approachable and trustworthy.
Increase Brand Exposure
If you want to build brand awareness, use social media to generate more exposure for your business. Social media allows you to harness the power of word-of-mouth marketing to promote your brand far and wide. You can’t expect to achieve overnight results with social media, however, as it takes time to build a following and forge relationships that lead to sales.
Enhance Your Reputation
Build trust in your brand and position it as a go-to resource in your field by sharing quality information about your industry via social media. When people see your business as a credible and valuable resource, they are far more inclined to recommend your products or services to others.
Increase Website Traffic
Social media marketing improves your website’s search engine rankings and boosts traffic levels. Every time you share content via social media, you can drive targeted traffic to your website. There is also a direct correlation between your company’s social media engagement levels and search engine rankings. Search engines evaluate a variety of factors, like the number of Facebook “likes,” social media mentions, Twitter followers, and retweets, to determine if your website is influential and relevant. The more social clout your website has, the better its search engine visibility will be.
The number of people who use social media today is overwhelming. According to a study by Ispos, 62% of adults worldwide now use social media. If you want to reach potential customers, it only makes sense to go where they are.
It doesn’t matter if you run a local mom-and-pop operation or a multinational company – you shouldn’t ignore social media if you want to build a lasting brand.
Your social media strategy doesn’t have to be complicated in order to be successful. Simply focus on interacting with your target audience and providing them with value, and eventually, you’ll reap the benefits!
